Doctoral Program
The School of Public Administration and Policy recently started a small, highly selective Ph.D. program. The first students were admitted in 1997.
The program is oriented towards training students for placement in university research and teaching positions throughout the country.
Students work closely with members of a nationally recognized faculty. Coursework is interdisciplinary, drawing on the School, the Eller College of Management, and departments throughout the University.
General Requirements
Undergraduate Degree
- The equivalent of at least six semesters of essentially full-time graduate study (minimum of 9 credit hours per semester) from an accredited college or university
Residency
- Minimum of 39 credit hours of course work in the major area exclusive of the dissertation
- 18 hours of dissertation credit, including registering for at least 2 full-time semesters of dissertation work
- 9 to 12 credit hours in a minor field of study
School Requirements
Students entering the program must successfully complete the core curriculum required of all entering MPA students. Normally, students who already have a master's degree in public administration from an NASPAA-accredited program will have satisfied this requirement. Students may also be able to substitute equivalent courses from other graduate programs. Other students will have to complete the MPA core during their first year in the program.
