| Before Module I even started, 2000 became a milestone year for the Southwest
Leadership Program,. For the first time both modules were oversubscribed months
in advance and a priority list was started for Southwest Leadership 2001! Not only
is enrollment breaking all records, but also participants are coming from farther
away. Clark County, Nevada sent a representative for the second time, and we welcomed
a colleague from the University of Georgia, who held the record for traveling the
farthest distance ... until, that is, the Southwest Leadership Program went
international. A city official from Hokkaido, Japan will be attending Module II
in Phoenix!
Two favorite faculty members returned to Module I this year: Janice Brinson of New
York and Michael Galvin of Colorado. Module I received 3.9 for content and 3.7 for
presentation (out of 4). New to Module I was an evening session at the U of A's
Challenge & Ropes Course. Thanks to brave participants who tested the waters and
lobbied heartily for its return in 2001, we will expand it to a full four-hour session.
Module II, November 29-December 1, has been booked for months. We will bring a
slice of the University of Virginia's Senior Executive Institute to southwest
officials, as well as hold a special evening in Bank One Ballpark. Carl Neu from
Colorado, Lou Marinoff from New York, David Landis from Nebraska, and Don Coyhis
from Colorado complete the team.
