SOUTHWEST LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
FOR LOCAL AND STATE GOVERNMENT
|
MODULE I
August 25-27-Tucson
Module 1, the first part of the six-day leadership program,
just concluded with more participants than ever in the
program's nine-year history, new jurisdictions including
Texas, and a remarkable new session on entrepreneurial
government. Encouraged by several state agency participants in
1998, the program was renamed and retuned to accommodate a
growing interest from state officials, including the legislature.
Twenty-seven municipal officials, 14 county officials, a tribal
chairman, and several from related organizations also attended.
Participants gave the program an overall rating of 3.8 for
content and 3.7 for presentation out of a possible 4.0.
"...a wonderful tool for improving our relationships
MODULE II
October 27-29-Phoenix
A few spaces remain for the second part of the
Southwest Leadership Program. This module will also
break new ground: it will be held in Phoenix so that
Southern Arizona participants can get away from the
office and officials from the rest of the state can decrease
their travel time; and two new sessions, "Systems
Thinking" and "Servant Leadership and the Management
of Change" will be introduced. Other sessions include
"Governance in the 21st Century," "The Media: Play
Their Game to Your Advantage," and "Negotiating for
Government Leaders."
|
"... excellent opportunity to see how
'thinking and acting out of the box'
can lead to better public service."
" lots of new ideas to do things
in a new and innovative way."
