Ninety-four top officials I, local, state, and tribal government participated
in 1999's Southwest Leadership Program for Local and State
Government. Module II concluded October 29 in Phoenix. Councilmembers,
vice mayors, supervisors arid commissioners, county constitutional officers,
managers, department head,, a tribal chairman and a
state legislator are among those who took the second module. In their
words, participants left Module II challenged, motivated, inspired,
tired, and ready to return home to implement some of the new ideas
for governance and interpersonal skills presente during three intense
days of learning. They gave the overall program 3.9 out of a possible
4 0 for content and 3 8 for presentation. The two new faculty who
debuted in Module II, philosopher Lou Marinoff and White Bison's
Don Coyhis, were very well received and will return in 2000.
As we close our 1999 training program, we look back with pride on eight
years of offering high-quality leadership development. Five hundred and one
officials from eight states (Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Nevada, New Mexico,
Utah, Texas, and Washington) have participated in the 15 modules. We are
gratified that several jurisdictions have incorporated this program into
their training calendars and are routinely scheduling elected leaders and
senior staff to attend. We are also pleased with our continuing corporate
sponsorship that provides scholarships or underwrites om, of the meals. Our
thanks to the sponsors listed above.
