MPA : Student Life

Mountain biking in the Sonoran desert is a favorite student life activity.

The MPA office counsels all new students regarding course selection and academic progress. After choosing an area of specialization, students select a faculty adviser in that field. Formal counseling sessions occur twice each year prior to fall and spring preregistration, although students are encouraged to discuss their programs of study with their advisors at any time during the year.

MPA Student Association

The MPA Student Association (MPASA) was created by students to serve as a social and academic support structure. The group distributes information regarding courses, requirements, internships, instructors and the graduate school experience. MPASA also is an effective advocacy body with administration and faculty; two student members serve on the School's Curriculum Committee while others meet with prospective faculty candidates and new students. Social events include off-campus parties, hiking and other outdoor activities.

Living in Tucson

Tucson is one of the fastest growing cities in the Sun Belt and a dynamic Southwestern community of more than 800,000 people. Nestled between four mountain ranges 120 miles from Phoenix and 60 miles from the Mexican border, the city enjoys a rich cultural heritage and wide variety of attractions.

Tucson supports cultural activities surprising for its size, offering frequent performances of the Arizona Opera Company, Arizona Theater Company, Tucson Symphony Orchestra and Ballet Arizona. The city's Sonoran Desert climate is ideal for outdoor and nature enthusiasts. Year-round outdoor recreation includes miles of hiking trails, swimming, ballooning, biking and camping as well as skiing in the nearby mountains. An average of 350 days of sunshine each year make these activities all the more enjoyable.
